Field Campaign: Madre de Dios River

The rapid expansion of artisanal and small-scale gold mining has devastated large portions of the Amazonian rainforest. The more iconic alteration is located in Madre de Dios watershed, in the southern region of the Amazon Rainforest, in southeastern Perú. This activity results in deforestation, channel instability, increased erosion, and significantly impaired environmental quality.
